The wine
Rich and dark, with black-berried fruit, black pepper and balsamic hints of eucalyptus. The palate is rich and imposing.
W is Cabernet Franc from just two rows of vines across three hectares in the Soprastrada vineyard, dedicated to Walter Allegrini. Cabernet Franc is the parent of Cabernet Sauvignon and gives more perfume and less weight, which is why it is usually blended rather than bottled alone. Bolgheri is the Tuscan coastal appellation created around Sassicaia, where Bordeaux varieties rather than Sangiovese make the running, and the sea a few kilometres west moderates the heat.
