Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi Mercurey Blanc Bois de Lalier 2023
£27.75
The wine
Pale gold and very expressive, with white pear, honeysuckle and a touch of vanilla. The palate has a lovely texture from the oak.
The domaine holds 72 hectares in Mercurey, which makes it much the largest owner in the appellation. Mercurey is the principal village of the Côte Chalonnaise, the slope running south of the Côte d Or, where the same grapes and methods produce wine at a fraction of the price. Gently pneumatic pressed and the must settled for twelve hours before fermentation.

Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi
View all Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi winesDomaine du Château Philippe le Hardi is one of Burgundy largest single estates, centred on a historic château in the Côte Chalonnaise. Named for the medieval Duke Philip the Bold, who championed Pinot Noir, it farms an impressive spread from Mercurey to the grand crus of the Côte d'Or. Few domaines offer such range.
The estate farms sustainably across a mosaic of terroirs, vinifying each with care and well-judged oak. From everyday Bourgogne to grand cru, the wines share a house signature of balance, freshness, and polish. There is real quality at every level.
The range spans crisp Chalonnaise whites, characterful Mercurey reds, and a fine selection of Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune crus. Each traces the character of its appellation with confidence.
To pour a Philippe le Hardi wine is to taste the breadth of Burgundy from a single, storied estate. Polished, balanced, and dependable, these are wines for every table.
