The wine
Elegant and fragrant, with a refined profile of violets and lavender layered with red and black fruit.
Pizarra means slate, and the vineyards lie on a slate-like metamorphic rock rare even in Cebreros. Cebreros lies on the Sierra de Gredos at 600 to 1,200 metres, and its old bush-vine Garnacha grows on granite and slate at altitudes that keep the wine pale, perfumed and taut rather than the jammy style the variety gives on the plains. The region was written off and largely abandoned before a handful of growers went looking for what remained.

Pegaso
View all Pegaso winesPegaso is a jewel in the Telmo Rodríguez portfolio, a project dedicated to reviving the ancient, high-altitude Garnacha vineyards of the Sierra de Gredos west of Madrid. It has helped establish Gredos as one of Spain most exciting regions.
The old bush vines cling to steep slopes of granite and slate at altitude, giving wines of remarkable freshness, perfume and mineral drive, a world away from the region old reputation for rustic reds. Farming is meticulous and site-specific.
The range runs from the fragrant, accessible Zeta to the soil-driven single-parcel Pizarra and the majestic single-vineyard Arrebatacapas, each an expression of granite, altitude and old-vine Garnacha.
Elegant, energetic and deeply expressive of place, Pegaso captures the soul of high Gredos, some of the most compelling Garnacha in the world.
