Paringa Estate Peninsula Shiraz 2021
£20.45
The wine
Cool-climate Shiraz with a floral wink of Viognier. Spicy blackberry and plum aromas are lifted by the co-ferment, the lively palate layering blackberry, plum and black pepper over fine-grained tannins and a silky texture through a long, harmonious finish. An enticing, elegant proof that Mornington does Shiraz too.
The producer
Paringa Estate
View all Paringa Estate winesParinga Estate began in 1984, when schoolteacher Lindsay McCall bought a derelict orchard in the heart of Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. The first vintage, in 1988, amounted to just three tonnes of fruit; today the estate produces 16,000 cases and stands among the most highly awarded boutique wineries in Australia.
The wines pay homage to Burgundy in style: trophy-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and remarkable cool-climate Shiraz, alongside a stunning, precise Pinot Gris. As Lindsay puts it, anywhere capable of growing great Pinot Noir should be capable of growing great Pinot Gris.
James Halliday calls Paringa one of the best, if not the best, wineries on the Peninsula. The range steps from the charming Peninsula tier through the Estate Series to The Paringa single vineyard wines, the pinnacle of the property.
