Otronia Patagonia Pinot Noir 2020

The wine
Ruby red with violet hues. Raspberries and cherries combined with dry herbs.
Pinot Noir this far south ripens slowly through long summer days, which builds aromatics without the sugar running away. Patagonia here is desert, swept by winds fierce enough that the vines are protected by hedges and every row is planted to break the gale. The name 45 Rugientes is the Spanish for the Roaring Forties, the latitude of those winds. Long summer daylight and cold nights give an extraordinarily slow ripening season. Otronia farm at Sarmiento in Chubut, on the 45th parallel, the southernmost commercial vineyard in Argentina and among the most southerly on earth.

Otronia
View all Otronia winesOtronia is one of the most extraordinary wineries in the world, set in the far south of Argentine Patagonia at the 45th parallel, among the most southerly vineyards on the planet. From this extreme, windswept frontier it crafts cool-climate wines of remarkable purity.
The vineyards endure fierce Patagonian winds, intense sunlight and cold nights, conditions that give low yields but wines of striking freshness, minerality and tension. Meticulous, sustainable farming makes viticulture possible at the very edge of the map.
The range spans a taut, saline Chardonnay and an elegant Pinot Noir from the estate's finest parcels, alongside the excellent-value 45 Rugientes range, named for the Roaring Forties winds, in both an aromatic white blend and a fresh Pinot Noir.
Pure, mineral and utterly singular, Otronia's wines capture the wild beauty of extreme-south Patagonia. They are a thrilling taste of viticulture at its limits.
