Nocturne Yallingup Cabernets 2023
£24.75
The wine
Deep crimson, with lifted cassis and hints of salinity. Medium bodied and elegant.
Yallingup sits at the northern end of Margaret River, closest to the ocean at Cape Naturaliste. Cabernets, plural, denotes a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc and often Malbec, in the Bordeaux manner. Margaret River is a narrow strip of Western Australia between two capes, surrounded on three sides by ocean, which moderates everything. It produces a fraction of Australia wine and a disproportionate share of its best Chardonnay and Cabernet.
The producer
Nocturne
View all Nocturne winesNocturne is a boutique Margaret River producer devoted to the region's two greatest grapes, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. From carefully chosen single vineyards, it crafts wines of elegance, precision and clear sense of place.
Working across Margaret River's finest sub-regions, from Wilyabrup to Wallcliffe and Yallingup, Nocturne farms with great attention to site. A cool maritime climate and gravelly soils give wines of freshness, structure and length, shaped by a restrained hand in the cellar.
The range showcases distinguished single-vineyard Chardonnays, from the flinty Forrest Vineyard to the taut Wilson Vineyard, alongside a bright, approachable Treeton Chardonnay and a polished Yallingup Cabernet blend. Each is elegant and finely detailed.
Pure, precise and quietly serious, Nocturne's wines capture Margaret River at its most refined. They reward the discerning with genuine class.
