Roncaglie is a cru in Barbaresco proper, on marl soils that give a lighter, more perfumed wine than the crus of neighbouring Neive. Nebbiolo is thin-skinned and late-ripening, harvested well into October, giving pale colour with formidable tannin, and rose and tar are its classic signature. Mura Mura is a young Piedmontese estate with holdings at Costigliole d Asti, Barbaresco and Serralunga d Alba, the founders having come to wine from a background in farming.
