The wine

Deep ruby. Blackberry, red plum and a touch of spice on the nose.

Syrah with Carignan is a properly southern French pairing: Syrah brings the dark fruit and pepper, Carignan the acidity and a savoury, garrigue-scented edge. Carignan was long dismissed as a bulk-wine grape, but old vines on poor soil give real structure. Pays d Oc is the regional IGP covering the whole Languedoc, and it gives growers the freedom to plant and blend varieties the local appellations would not permit. The region spent most of the twentieth century making bulk wine and has transformed more dramatically since the 1990s than anywhere in France.

The producer

Monrouby offers bright, easygoing wines from the sunny Languedoc in the south of France, one of the country's most dynamic and generous wine regions. Its range delivers Mediterranean charm and dependable quality at a friendly price.

Drawing on the warm vineyards of the Pays d'Oc and coastal Côtes de Thau, Monrouby's wines are made in a fresh, fruit-forward style. The long, sunny growing season gives ripe fruit, while careful winemaking keeps everything balanced and lively.

The range spans a rounded Grenache Blanc and an unoaked coastal Chardonnay, a juicy Syrah and Carignan red and a pale, breezy Grenache rosé. Each is bright, approachable and made for easy enjoyment.

Fresh, sunny and thoroughly likeable, the wines of Monrouby capture the generosity of the Languedoc. They are perfect for relaxed, everyday drinking.
