The wine

Mild ripening conditions gave Grenache with an intense core of red and blue fruit, and real purity.

Blewitt Springs is the sandy, higher, cooler corner of McLaren Vale and the source of Australia most perfumed Grenache. Deep sand drains hard, keeps yields low and gives lift rather than weight, which is why the corner has become the most sought-after in the region. Old bush-vine Grenache was widely pulled up across Australia in the 1980s under a government vine-pull scheme, which is why the survivors here matter. MMAD Vineyard sits in the dress circle of Blewitt Springs, first planted in 1969, and the name is drawn from the initials of the four partners behind it.

The producer

MMAD Vineyard is a remarkable Australian project born of collaboration between South Africa's acclaimed Mullineux family and McLaren Vale's Adams family. The name unites them, and the wines draw on a single, special vineyard in the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs.

The old, dry-grown vineyard sits in one of McLaren Vale's coolest, most characterful pockets. Farmed with care and vinified with the Mullineux's celebrated light touch, the fruit yields wines of freshness, perfume and elegance uncommon in the region.

The range is focused and pure: a taut, saline Chenin Blanc, a fragrant, red-fruited Grenache and a perfumed, spice-laced Shiraz. Each is an elegant, single-vineyard expression of Blewitt Springs.

Refined, distinctive and quietly compelling, MMAD Vineyard offers a fresh vision of McLaren Vale. Its wines bring old-world finesse to Australian sunshine.
