The wine
A silky, smooth Pinot Noir with great purity of fruit, vibrant notes of wild cherry, rose and a touch of spice on the finish.
Marsannay is the northernmost appellation of the Côte de Nuits, and the only one with AOC status for red, white and rosé alike. The climate is continental, warm sunny days through the growing season and cool evenings, so the fruit ripens gradually and holds its acidity. This comes from the lieu-dit of Sampagny, cultivated traditionally with regard for the balance of soil, flora and fauna, and hand harvested at optimal maturity. Julien Millet vinifies with minimal intervention and little sulphur, selecting the fruit meticulously and fermenting on wild indigenous yeasts, then maturing the wine fifteen months in French oak barriques. Good with steak and shallots, with freshwater fish, or with a hard cheese.

Domaine Les Astrelles
View all Domaine Les Astrelles winesDomaine Les Astrelles sits in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin. The name fuses astre, meaning star, with les parcelles, the plots: a mosaic of tiny holdings scattered like stars in a galaxy, each with its own individuality.
It is a fitting image for Burgundy's philosophy of climats, and the estate's eleven hectares are cultivated mostly across the Côte de Nuits and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits by Jean Marie and Isabelle Chapier. The range runs from a serious Bourgogne Aligoté up to two distinct Gevrey-Chambertins.
