Lagar de Pintos 3000 Cepas Rías Baixas Albariño 2024
£26.95
The wine
Ripe fruit, aniseed and blossom complemented by toasted oak, with weight on the palate.
3000 Cepas means three thousand vines, drawn from plots averaging over seventy years old. Old-vine Albariño given oak is a departure from the crisp unoaked norm, and it shows the grape has more to give than most bottlings suggest. Rías Baixas is the wettest and greenest corner of Spain, on the Atlantic in Galicia, and Albariño is trained high on granite pergolas to keep the fruit off damp ground and let air move through. It is the same grape as Portuguese Alvarinho, grown either side of the Miño.

Lagar de Pintos
View all Lagar de Pintos winesLagar de Pintos is a small family estate in the Salnés Valley, the most northerly and coastal subzone of Rías Baixas. It is run by sisters Marta and Carmen Castro Pintos, with the help of respected consultant Dominique Roujou de Boubée.
The family farms 5.5 hectares of organically grown Albariño around their traditional Galician pazo, or manor house, just a few miles from the Atlantic beaches. Vines were first planted here in the 1950s, with the estate modernised in the 1980s as the region embraced Albariño.
The range showcases the grape at its best, from a zesty, saline classic Albariño to the old vine 3000 Cepas, a richer, more complex single vineyard bottling.
Pure, saline and beautifully expressive, Lagar de Pintos captures the maritime character of Rías Baixas. Its Albariños are as complex as they are refreshing. Perfect with the seafood of the Atlantic coast.
