La Giustiniana Montessora Gavi di Gavi 2025
£22.25
The wine
Light straw-yellow with fresh notes of flint and flowers. Intense on the palate.
Gavi is Cortese, grown on white marl in the south-east corner of Piemonte close to the Ligurian border, and it is the region only white of real reputation in a place otherwise given over to Nebbiolo and Barbera. Gavi di Gavi means the fruit comes from the commune of Gavi itself rather than the wider zone. Montessora is a five-hectare vineyard at Rovereto, and its proximity to the sea is much of why the wine tastes saline.

La Giustiniana
View all La Giustiniana winesLa Giustiniana is a historic estate in the heart of Gavi, in south east Piedmont, one of the region's benchmark names for the Cortese grape. Its vineyards lie in the commune of Rovereto, at the core of the appellation.
The estate farms 40 hectares of vines within 110 hectares of land, crafting pure, unoaked wines that let each vineyard speak. Careful, low intervention winemaking preserves the freshness and mineral drive that define fine Gavi.
Two single vineyard wines lead the range. Lugarara is the more open and forward, with beguiling stone fruit and lime, while the more mineral Montessora has greater intensity and the structure to age for a decade or more.
Fresh, precise and food friendly, La Giustiniana's wines are among the finest expressions of Gavi. They combine purity with real depth and length. This is Piedmontese white wine at its most characterful.
