La Cavea Merlot/Pinot Nero 2024

The wine
Merlot with Pinot Nero is a distinctly Venetian blend, both varieties having been planted in the region since the nineteenth century and long enough established to be treated as local.
Merlot gives the flesh and Pinot Nero the perfume, and the wine is made light and fresh for drinking young rather than kept. The Veneto is the largest producer of DOC wine in Italy, and its range runs from Prosecco and Soave in the west to the Friulian border in the east. The hills south of Vicenza are volcanic, quite unlike the alluvial plain around them. La Cavea works the Berici and Colli Euganei hills of the Veneto, on volcanic soils with northern exposures.

La Cavea
View all La Cavea winesLa Cavea is a range of bright, characterful Veneto wines made for Liberty Wines at the Cantina Colli Vicentini, near Verona. The name evokes the Roman architecture of Vicenza, in north eastern Italy.
Wine has been made in the hills around Vicenza for centuries. Grapes such as Merlot, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco were brought here by Napoleon at the start of the 19th century, and thrive in the region's temperate climate.
The range offers easy, everyday pleasure, from a fresh, unoaked Pinot Bianco and Garganega blend to a soft Merlot and Pinot Nero red and a crisp Prosecco Spumante.
Fresh, fruit driven and superb value, the La Cavea wines are made for the table. They are approachable, versatile and true to their Veneto home. Perfect for everyday enjoyment.
