Jean-Claude Boisset Puligny-Montrachet Le Trezin 2024
£85.25
The wine
Pale gold in the glass, with lemon zest and grapefruit peel lifted by a mineral note of wet stone. The palate is bright and precise, carrying the lively acidity that marks the vintage, and the finish is fresh, clean and persistent.
Grégory Patriat makes the wines at Jean-Claude Boisset, and came to the job from Domaine Leroy, where he was head viticulturist and assistant winemaker. His approach is vineyard-led and the wines speak of their lieux-dits rather than of the cellar. Puligny-Montrachet is given over almost entirely to Chardonnay, and a few metres between parcels changes the wine noticeably; here the limestone and clay give both intensity and structure. The fruit was hand-picked into small perforated boxes and pressed straight to cask, fermented cold on wild yeasts alone over a long, gentle ten months, with no bâtonnage so the style stays taut and mineral. Malolactic was allowed, and the wine spent fifteen months in barrel with only a quarter new oak to keep toast off the fruit.
