The wine

La Madone is Guillaume Chanudet's fragrant Fleurie, pure Gamay from granite slopes below the village's hilltop chapel. Whole-bunch fermentation keeps it fresh and perfumed.

Wild raspberry, red cherry, violet and iris fill an aromatic nose. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with bright red fruit, a mineral lift and fine tannins running to a floral finish.

Lovely lightly chilled with charcuterie, poultry and pork. Serve at cool room temperature.

The producer

Guillaume Chanudet is a fine grower in Fleurie, one of the most celebrated crus of the Beaujolais. Working the granite slopes below the famous Madone chapel, he crafts pure, elegant Gamay in small quantities. His wines have quickly earned a following among lovers of characterful Beaujolais.

The vineyards sit on the pink granite soils that give Fleurie its floral perfume and finesse. Careful, low-intervention farming lets the site shine through. This is Gamay at its most refined and aromatic.

The La Madone cuvée comes from vines around the hilltop chapel that watches over the village. Whole-bunch fermentation keeps it fresh, fragrant and lively. It is a graceful, food-friendly expression of the cru.

Chanudet's Fleurie is bright, mineral and beautifully balanced. It shows exactly why the cru is so loved. A lovely taste of fine Beaujolais.
