The wine
An expressive nose of quince, white blossom and wet stones, driven by a distinct mineral line.
Caresse Calcaire means limestone caress, and the wine comes from parcels on the shallowest soil over tuffeau, where the rock is closest to the surface. Vouvray is Chenin Blanc alone, on tuffeau, the soft white limestone the Loire châteaux are built from and which the growers hollowed into cellars. The grape runs from bone dry to intensely sweet here depending on the year, and it keeps a searing acidity at any ripeness, which is why Vouvray ages for decades.
The producer
Goustine
View all Goustine winesGoustine is a characterful producer of Vouvray, in the Loire Valley heartland of Chenin Blanc. Working the tuffeau limestone slopes above the river, it crafts pure, mineral whites. The wines are fresh, precise and full of terroir.
The vineyards sit on the chalky, flinty soils that give Vouvray its hallmark tension and length. Chenin Blanc is the sole grape, farmed with care. Cool Loire conditions preserve its racy acidity and aromatic lift.
The range explores different soils and styles, from the bright Le XX to the mineral Caresse Calcaire and the textured Murmure d'Argile. Each is a distinct expression of Vouvray Chenin. All are dry, pure and beautifully balanced.
Goustine's wines combine freshness, minerality and real depth. They are elegant, food-friendly and age-worthy. A fine taste of the Loire.
