Fairview Paarl Viognier 2023
£13.75
The wine
Fairview helped pioneer Viognier in South Africa, and this Paarl bottling shows why. Partly barrel-fermented, it balances the grape's exotic perfume with freshness and a subtle creamy weight.
Apricot, peach and honeysuckle fill an aromatic nose. The palate is soft and rounded, with stone fruit, a hint of spice and a long, gently textured finish.
A fine match for roast chicken, creamy dishes and mild spice. Serve lightly chilled.

Fairview
View all Fairview winesFairview is one of South Africa's best-loved estates, set on the slopes of Paarl Mountain in the Cape winelands. Under Charles Back, it has become famous for both its wines and its award-winning cheeses, with a herd of goats that has become an emblem of the farm. The range is as characterful as the man behind it.
The estate draws on vineyards across the Coastal Region, from Paarl and Darling to the Swartland, matching each variety to the site that suits it best. This spread lets Fairview work with everything from cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc to sun-loving Rhône reds. Quality and individuality run through every bottle.
Fairview champions the grapes that define the Cape, above all Chenin Blanc, Viognier and the country's own Pinotage. It also makes Méthode Cap Classique sparkling and richly sweet dessert wines. Each is made with skill, personality and a keen sense of place.
Approachable yet serious, Fairview wines deliver flavour and character in equal measure. They are dependable, distinctive and always good value. This is one of South Africa's true benchmark estates.
