The wine

Grown on the limestone soils of Robertson, Excelsior Merlot is a generous, welcoming Cape red. Warm days and cool nights build ripeness while holding freshness in the fruit and a plush, easy style.

Plum, black cherry and a touch of chocolate and vanilla fill a full, rounded palate. Soft, supple tannins and juicy dark fruit lead to a smooth, gently spiced finish.

An easy partner for roast pork, beef, cheese and everyday suppers. Serve at cool room temperature.

The producer

Excelsior Estate lies in the Robertson valley of South Africa's Breede River region, a stretch of country long famous for its lime-rich soils. Family-owned for generations, the estate has grown into one of the Cape's most successful exporters. Its wines are known for pairing ripe Cape fruit with genuine elegance.

Robertson is sometimes called the valley of wine and roses, its limestone earth and cool nights giving structure and freshness that belie the warm days. These conditions are especially kind to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay. The estate farms with sustainability firmly in mind.

Excelsior built its reputation on beautifully made, affordable wines, and a long association with horse breeding lends the label its equestrian charm. From smooth Merlot to zesty Sauvignon Blanc, the range is polished and consistent. Each wine offers more than its price would suggest.

For everyday drinking, few estates deliver such reliable pleasure. The wines are approachable, food-friendly and dependable across every vintage. Excelsior is proof that serious quality and easy enjoyment can share the same glass.
