The wine
Bright, pale yellow, with exotic white peach, pineapple and nectarine, and citrus on the palate.
Côtes de Gascogne is the white wine of Armagnac country: the region grew Ugni Blanc and Colombard for distilling, and when brandy demand fell in the 1970s the growers turned those high-acid grapes into crisp, aromatic dry whites instead. It remains one of the best value whites in France. Duffour Père et Fils work a 70-hectare vineyard on south-facing slopes in the hills of Tenarèze, in Gascony.
