The wine
A perfumed nose of wild herbs, violets and black cherries, with vibrant fruit on the palate.
No Wine s Land sits at around 200 metres on the northern edge of Cornas but just outside the appellation boundary, so it must be sold as Côtes-du-Rhône despite the same hands and the same granite. That is where the name comes from, and where the value is. Domaine du Coulet is Matthieu Barret 11.1 hectares in Cornas, farmed biodynamically on steep south and south-east facing terraces.

View all Domaine du Coulet winesIn Cornas, in the Northern Rhône, Domaine du Coulet is the biodynamic estate of Matthieu Barret, a leading light of the appellation. Farming steep granite terraces high above the Rhône, he crafts Syrah of purity, energy, and real individuality. This is Cornas with a modern, natural sensibility.
Barret works biodynamically and with minimal intervention, letting the granite terroir and the Syrah grape speak without distortion. Whole-bunch fermentation and gentle handling give wines of freshness and drive. The style is vivid, mineral, and distinctive.
The range spans deep, structured Cornas cuvées and a bright, characterful Côtes-du-Rhône. Each captures the wild, peppery soul of Northern Rhône Syrah.
To pour a du Coulet wine is to taste Cornas at its most exciting. Pure, energetic, and profound, these are Syrahs for the adventurous drinker.
