The wine

Bright yellow. Acacia on the nose first, followed by intense peach and pear.

Jura Chardonnay can be made either in the Burgundian manner, topped up in barrel, or *sous voile* under a veil of yeast. This is the fresher style, which is why it tastes of fruit rather than nuts. The Jura lies between Burgundy and Switzerland on grey marl, and it makes wine unlike anywhere else in France. Its whites are often aged *sous voile*, under a veil of yeast in barrels deliberately left unfilled, which gives the nutty, oxidative character that made the region famous and which almost nobody else attempts.

The producer

In the Jura, one of France most distinctive wine regions, Domaine Rolet is a family estate of real standing. Spread across the appellations of Arbois and beyond, it works the region characterful marl and limestone soils. The Jura singular grapes are the stars here.

Rolet farms a broad palette of varieties, from Chardonnay and the local Savagnin to the red Trousseau. Traditional winemaking, including the region famous oxidative ageing, gives wines of great individuality. Nothing here tastes quite like anywhere else.

The range spans crisp Chardonnay, nutty Savagnin blends, characterful reds, and the legendary Vin Jaune. Each is a window into the Jura proud, idiosyncratic traditions.

To pour a Rolet wine is to discover one of France hidden treasures. Distinctive, savoury, and endlessly intriguing, these are wines for the adventurous drinker.
