The wine
Pale yellow with green reflections. Charming citrus and white flowers on the nose.
Jurançon lies in the Pyrenean foothills of south-west France and grows Petit and Gros Manseng, which almost nobody else does. Petit Manseng has thick skins and tiny berries that shrivel on the vine into December without rotting, concentrating sugar while keeping ferocious acidity — which is why the sweet wines here are never cloying. The dry version is labelled Jurançon Sec; the name without it means sweet. Domaine Laguilhon farm at Monein, the part of Jurançon known for the richer styles.

Domaine Laguilhon
View all Domaine Laguilhon winesIn the foothills of the Pyrenees, in the Jurançon appellation of south-west France, Domaine Laguilhon crafts distinctive wines from the region native grapes. A family estate with generations of history, it works steep slopes swept by warm mountain winds. The setting is dramatic and the wines are full of character.
Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng are the stars here, grown on clay and pebble soils. Careful farming and patient winemaking capture both the vibrant acidity and the honeyed richness these grapes can offer. The style is pure and expressive.
The range spans crisp, dry Jurançon Sec and the lusciously sweet Jurançon Doux, made from late-harvested fruit. Each shows a different face of this singular corner of France.
To pour a Laguilhon wine is to discover one of France hidden gems. Bright, aromatic, and quite unlike anywhere else, these are wines for the adventurous table.
