Domaine des Brosses Quincy 2025
£18.45
The wine
Pale yellow with golden hues, showing intense aromas of grapefruit zest and green mango. The palate is fresh and zesty, aromatic and bright, finishing soft.
Quincy sits on the left bank of the Cher, a small appellation given wholly to Sauvignon Blanc and the second in France to be granted AOC status, in 1936. The fruit here comes from vineyards spread over Brinay on sandy, gravelly soils, from vines of three to eighteen years trained on the Guyot system. Domaine des Brosses dates to 1875 and lies ten kilometres south of Sancerre; the Girard family modernised it after buying the estate in 1973, and Nicolas Girard now runs its eleven hectares with his brother Anthony. They have harvested by machine since 1989, deliberately, so the Sauvignon reaches the winery in the cool of the night with its aromatics intact. 2025 was warm and dry with low disease pressure and cool nights through ripening, giving a riper wine than 2024 without losing freshness.
The producer
Domaine des Brosses
View all Domaine des Brosses winesIn the Loire Valley, spanning Sancerre and neighbouring Menetou-Salon, Domaine des Brosses crafts crisp, mineral Sauvignon Blanc. A family estate, it farms the flint and limestone soils that give these appellations their zesty character. The focus is firmly on purity and freshness.
Careful farming and clean, precise winemaking keep the fruit vivid and the minerality bright. Des Brosses captures Sauvignon at its most transparent, letting the terroir shine. The style is fresh and food-friendly.
The range spans classic Sancerre and the excellent-value Menetou-Salon, each offering the flinty, citrussy purity the Loire is loved for. These are wines built for the table.
To pour a des Brosses wine is to taste the Loire at its most refreshing. Zesty, mineral, and versatile, they are a fine partner for the sea.
