The wine

Les Bertins is a Pommard premier cru on the Volnay side of the village, where old vines grow on brown limestone soils laced with scree. Yields are held to around 35 to 40 hectolitres per hectare, and the wine has the firm structure Pommard is known for, framed by the freshness of a cool year.

The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed and left uncrushed, then fermented gently in stainless steel for up to 25 days before 18 months on the lees in 228 and 500-litre French oak, around 40% new. It is bottled without filtration. 2024 was a cool, wet season in Burgundy, a return to classic conditions after the heat of 2022 and 2023. The domaine has been certified organic since 2006 and has been owned since 2023 by Eric Rousseau of Domaine Armand Rousseau and Jean-Philippe Girard, with Fabrice Groussin as cellar master.

The producer

Domaine Chantal Lescure is a respected estate based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, with holdings across both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Farmed organically, it has built a name for pure, terroir-driven red and white Burgundy. Quiet quality defines the house.

The domaine works Pinot Noir and Chardonnay across a patchwork of appellations, from village wines to grand premier crus like Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots. Organic farming on Burgundy's limestone soils keeps the fruit pure and expressive. Each cuvée reflects its origins.

In the cellar, the approach is gentle and precise, with whole-bunch ferments and measured oak that preserve fruit and freshness. The reds are fragrant and silky, the whites taut and mineral. Elegance guides every decision.

From an approachable Côte de Beaune to the sublime Vosne-Romanée premier cru, Chantal Lescure offers Burgundy across the spectrum. Pure, elegant and ageworthy, these are wines of real class.
