Domaine Changarnier Monthélie Pierrefitte 2022
£42.75
The wine
Pierrefitte is a village-level lieu-dit at Monthélie, and its name means stone-fast, for the rock close beneath the surface.
Monthélie sits in a side valley behind Volnay and Meursault, sharing the same slope as both, and it has always been the cheapest way to buy that geology. The reds have Volnay perfume without its price and the whites lean towards Meursault in shape. Thin soil over rock keeps yields naturally low and gives the wine its definition. Domaine Changarnier is a small estate at Monthélie, one of the least known villages of the Côte de Beaune.

Domaine Changarnier
View all Domaine Changarnier winesDomaine Changarnier is a family grower in Monthélie, a fine-value village tucked in the hills of Burgundy's Côte de Beaune between Volnay and Meursault. Small and traditional, it farms both red and white across the appellation. Monthélie's charm runs through everything it makes.
The domaine works Pinot Noir for its reds and Chardonnay for its whites, on the limestone slopes that Monthélie shares with its illustrious neighbours. Careful farming keeps yields low and fruit clean. Each parcel is vinified with respect for its origins.
In the cellar, classical winemaking and measured oak ageing produce wines of freshness and finesse. The reds are fragrant and silky, the whites taut and mineral, all offering fine Burgundian character at a gentle price. Balance is the aim.
From a premier cru Meix Bataille to a crisp Monthélie Blanc, Changarnier offers the Côte de Beaune without the grand price. Fresh, elegant and food-friendly, these are wines for lovers of honest Burgundy.
