Dom Brial Rivesaltes Grande Réserve 1999
£47.75
The wine
A Rivesaltes from 1999, given more than two decades of oxidative ageing before release. Rivesaltes is a vin doux naturel, fortified partway through fermentation so that natural sweetness remains, and long ageing turns it russet and takes it towards coffee, walnut and dried fruit. Sold as single bottles rather than by the case.
The producer
Dom Brial
View all Dom Brial winesDom Brial is a cooperative named for a Benedictine monk born in the Roussillon. It was founded in 1923 on the principle that together we are stronger, a direct response to the phylloxera crisis that had devastated the region's vineyards.
It now represents 247 growers across 1,700 hectares, certified for sustainable winegrowing since 2007 and holding HVE Level 3, with 200 hectares farmed organically. Its finest wines come from Château les Pins, a 28-hectare estate in the heart of the village in Cotes du Roussillon Villages, bequeathed to the cooperative by one of its own growers.
