Domaine de Bel Air Cuvée des Acoins Pouilly-Fumé 2024
£23.95
The wine
Well-balanced and rounded, with a fruity and mineral flavour profile.
Cuvée des Acoins is the estate selection, from older vines and given longer on lees. Pouilly-Fumé faces Sancerre across the Loire and is planted largely on silex, the flint that gives the appellation its smoky character and its name: fumé means smoked. The same grape on the same river a mile apart tastes recognisably different, which is the clearest lesson in soil the Loire offers.
The producer
Domaine de Bel Air
View all Domaine de Bel Air winesIn the village of Pouilly-sur-Loire, Domaine de Bel Air crafts classic Pouilly-Fumé from the flinty slopes above the river. A family estate, it farms the silex and limestone soils that give the appellation its smoky signature. The focus here is on pure, expressive Sauvignon Blanc.
Careful farming and a fresh, clean approach in the cellar keep the fruit vivid and the minerality bright. De Bel Air captures Sauvignon at its most transparent, letting the flinty terroir shine. The style is crisp and food-friendly.
The range spans classic Pouilly-Fumé and a richer old-vine cuvée, each showing the smoky depth that sets the appellation apart. These are wines built for the table.
To pour a de Bel Air wine is to taste the Loire in classic form. Bright, flinty, and endlessly versatile, they are a fine partner for the sea.
