David Moret Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot 2023
£97.75
The wine
A classic Chassagne-Montrachet, brimming with stone fruit and toasted almond over subtle blossom and honey. Intense and fleshy on the palate, but kept on the straight and narrow by a vibrant acidity, with a marked minerality on the lingering finish.
Abbaye de Morgeot takes its name from the priory that once stood here, and it is among the most prized premiers crus in Chassagne, mid-slope towards the southern end of the appellation near the Santenay border. Moret works a small walled clos within it, Chardonnay of around fifty years on clay-limestone. Whole-bunch pressed, gravity fed into 228 litre fûts for fermentation on indigenous yeasts, then eleven months in the same barrels, 20 to 25% new, bottled unfined and unfiltered.

David Moret
View all David Moret winesDavid Moret is a respected négociant-éleveur based in Beaune, at the heart of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Since establishing his own house, he has built a reputation for immaculate white Burgundy from the great villages of the Côte de Beaune. His name is a mark of purity and precision.
Working with carefully sourced grapes from Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and beyond, Moret is above all a master of élevage, the art of ageing. The famed limestone soils of the Côte give his Chardonnays their cut and minerality. Only the finest parcels make the cut.
In the cellar, restraint and patience define the style. Wines are barrel-aged with a judicious touch of oak, always in service of freshness and terroir. The results are taut, mineral and beautifully balanced, from village wines to grand cru.
From an everyday Aligoté to the majestic Corton-Charlemagne, David Moret offers white Burgundy at its most refined. Precise, ageworthy and true to their origins, these are wines for lovers of the Côte d'Or.
