Contero Brachetto d’Acqui 2025
£17.45
The wine
Brachetto d Acqui is a sweet, lightly sparkling red of low alcohol, made from an aromatic native grape and drunk cold with fruit or chocolate.
Fermentation is stopped while the sugar is still high, which is why the alcohol stays around five per cent and the wine keeps its grapey perfume. It is one of the few genuinely successful sweet reds anywhere. Contero work at Strevi in the hills of southern Piemonte, farming organically.
The producer
Contero
View all Contero winesContero is a small family estate in the hills of southern Piedmont, around Strevi and Acqui, dedicated to the region's sweet, aromatic sparkling wines. This is the home of Moscato d'Asti and Brachetto d'Acqui, gentle, low-alcohol wines of great charm. Tradition runs deep here.
The estate works with the aromatic Moscato and Brachetto grapes, grown on the calcareous hills that suit them so well. Fermentation is stopped early to keep the wines lightly sparkling, sweet and low in alcohol. Freshness and fragrance are everything.
In the cellar the wines are made with care to preserve their delicate perfume and gentle fizz. The Moscato is all peach and orange blossom, the Brachetto a fragrant, strawberry-scented red. Both are irresistibly easy to enjoy.
Contero offers Piedmont's sweet sparklers at their most charming. Light, aromatic and joyful, these are wines for dessert, for celebration, or simply for a moment of pleasure.
