Charles Melton The Kirche Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2021
£34.75
The wine
Lovely deep colour with a bright hue. Black fruits on the nose, blackberry with a touch of cedar and smoke.
Shiraz with Cabernet is the classic Australian blend, predating the Rhône-style pairings now more fashionable: Cabernet gives structure and a leafy edge, Shiraz fills the middle. The Kirche is named for the Lutheran churches the Silesian settlers built across the valley. Charlie Melton has made Barossa reds since 1984, having learned under Peter Lehmann, and is one of the names most associated with the valley old-vine revival.

View all Charles Melton winesIn the heart of the Barossa Valley, Charles Melton is one of Australia's most beloved wineries, a champion of old-vine Shiraz and Grenache made with warmth and character. Charlie Melton's wines helped define modern Barossa, and none more so than the legendary Grenache-Shiraz blend Nine Popes. His is a name that Barossa lovers say with real affection.
From the iconic Rose of Virginia to powerful old-vine reds and a cool-climate Shiraz from the Adelaide Hills, the range is generous, honest and full of soul. Everything is made to be enjoyed, with rich fruit balanced by a savoury depth.
Rich, characterful and deeply Barossan, these are wines made with real heart rather than to a formula. They wear their generosity proudly.
Decant the reds and serve at cool room temperature, and taste the warmth of the valley.
