The wine
Pale golden in colour, this exquisite, silky and mineral Champagne offers a sublime bouquet of honeysuckle, lemon, clementine and fresh butter, with a touch of honey and hazelnut.
Grand Siècle is Laurent-Perrier’s prestige cuvée and, unusually for a tête de cuvée, it is never a single vintage. Each Iteration blends three complementary years in pursuit of an ideal year that nature rarely provides. No. 27 is 65% 2015, 25% 2013 and 10% 2012: 60% Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant and Avize, and 40% Pinot Noir from Tours-sur-Marne, Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzy, all eight of them grand cru villages. It spent around ten years on its lees before disgorgement, with a dosage of 7 grams per litre. Only 27 Iterations have been released since the first in 1959.
The producer
Champagne Laurent-Perrier
View all Champagne Laurent-Perrier winesLaurent-Perrier is one of the last great family-owned Champagne houses, based at Tours-sur-Marne. Its modern reputation was built by Bernard de Nonancourt, who returned from the Second World War to a house in ruins and spent the following decades turning it into one of the most respected names in the region.
The style is defined by freshness and a very high proportion of Chardonnay, with long ageing and low dosage. The Cuvée Rosé, made by maceration rather than blending, has been the benchmark pink Champagne since 1968, and Grand Siecle is a multi-vintage prestige cuvee assembled from three great years.
