The wine
Barco Reale is Capezzana's charming younger Carmignano, a Sangiovese-led red with a dash of Cabernet from this historic estate west of Florence.
Bright and juicy, it offers red cherry, plum and a violet lift over a savoury, gently spiced palate and supple tannins, finishing fresh and moreish. Classic Tuscan drinking at its most approachable.
Serve at cool room temperature, with pasta, roast meats, charcuterie and hard cheese.

View all Capezzana winesOn the hills of Carmignano, west of Florence, Capezzana is one of Italy's oldest and most storied wine estates, with a documented winemaking history stretching back over a thousand years. For generations it has been the home of the Contini Bonacossi family, custodians of one of Tuscany's most distinctive traditions. Few estates carry their history so lightly, or so well.
Here, uniquely, Sangiovese has long been partnered with Cabernet, a marriage the Medici first encouraged centuries ago. The result is Carmignano, a red of elegance and structure all its own, alongside a Bordeaux-inspired super-Tuscan and a characterful, textural Trebbiano.
Historic, graceful and beautifully made, these are wines of real depth and pedigree. They reward patience in the cellar and generosity at the table in equal measure.
