The wine

An elegant Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of floral spice, cardamom and white pepper. Richly textured, with generous notes of citrus and ripe nectarine through to the characteristic, lengthy mineral edge on the finish.

The Reserve comes from the estate's best Sauvignon parcels and receives some barrel work, which is unusual for the variety at the Cape and gives texture where the standard bottling gives cut. The long, slow maritime ripening season is what allows the wine to carry oak without losing definition.

The producer

Cape Point Vineyards lies at Noordhoek on the Cape Peninsula, a narrow finger of land south of Cape Town with the Atlantic on one side and False Bay on the other.

It is among the most maritime vineyard sites in the world. The sea is never more than a few kilometres away, cool air moves across the vines almost constantly, and the growing season is long and slow. That suits Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon better than almost anything else, and the estate has built its reputation entirely on them, which is unusual: most Cape producers spread across many varieties.

The vineyards sit within the Cape Floral Kingdom, the smallest and richest of the world's six floral kingdoms, and the fynbos surrounding them is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Isliedh, the flagship, is named after the owner's daughter and blends Sauvignon Blanc with Semillon in the manner of white Bordeaux.
