Cantina di Monteforte Terre di Monteforte Soave Classico 2025
£9.25
The wine
This Soave is light, clean, and bright. It has a lovely floral nose and ripe peach and almond notes. The wine shows excellent depth on the palate and a lovely balance between ripe, aromatic fruit and fresh, zingy acidity.
Sixty per cent of the co-operative's vineyards are on the hills facing south and south-east, which is why these wines come out riper and fuller than much of what Soave produces from the flat land. The Cantina has 600 members and takes in around 20,000 tonnes a year. The hand-picked grapes were sorted and gently pressed on a static press, the must chilled immediately, settled and racked into 300-hectolitre steel tanks to ferment at 16 to 18C, then given a short period on lees for depth.

Cantina di Monteforte
View all Cantina di Monteforte winesIn the heart of Soave Classico, on the volcanic slopes around Monteforte d'Alpone, this cooperative has made fresh, fragrant Garganega its life's work. These are the finest hills in Soave, where old basalt soils and cool mountain air give the wines their signature mineral lift. It is a landscape built for elegant whites.
From single-vineyard Soave Superiore to a pretty Pinot Grigio rosato, the range is all about freshness and finesse. Every wine is made to express its origin, with clarity and quiet detail rather than weight or oak.
Gracious, gastronomic and beautifully priced, they show Soave at its charming best. This is a wine too often overlooked, made here with real care and pride.
Serve them well chilled, as an aperitif or with lighter dishes, and rediscover one of Italy's great and most underrated white wines.
