Bodegas Viña Cartín Ruta 49 Albariño 2025
£14.25
The wine
A fresh and zesty Albariño showing bright citrus fruit aromas layered with herbaceous notes and a touch of spice. Lightly textured and beautifully balanced, with a lively, moreish finish. From the Val do Salnés, the heartland of the variety.
Albariño is trained high on granite posts in pergolas called parras, lifting the fruit clear of the damp ground and letting air move through the canopy. With over 1,500 millimetres of rain a year in Rías Baixas, that ventilation is a necessity rather than a tradition. Ruta 49 is the road through the estate's vineyards.
The producer
Bodegas Viña Cartín
View all Bodegas Viña Cartín winesBodegas Vina Cartin is a small Rias Baixas producer in Galicia, working Albarino in the green, wet north-west corner of Spain.
Rias Baixas takes its name from the drowned river valleys of the Galician coast, and the growing conditions are unlike anywhere else in the country: over 1,500 millimetres of rain a year, granite soils, and constant Atlantic humidity. Vines are trained high on granite posts in pergolas called parras, which lifts the fruit clear of the damp ground and lets air move through the canopy, and that ventilation is a necessity rather than a tradition.
Albarino gives stone fruit and citrus over a saline finish, and it was made for the shellfish this coast produces in extraordinary quantity. Ruta 49 is the road that runs through the estate's vineyards.
