Bodega Tamerán Gran Canaria Baboso Blanco 2024

The wine
Baboso Blanco is a scarce Canary Island white, with much of the estate's planting of the variety set on this single high-altitude site. Hand-harvested and slowly fermented in 500-litre barrels, it spends eleven months on its lees with full malolactic and ageing in old, neutral oak, lending richness while preserving its mineral backbone.
A creamy, gently spiced nose recalls warm pastry and crème fraîche. The palate is taut and vibrant, with yellow plum, lemon and grapefruit carried by a fine line of acidity to an exceptionally long, mineral finish. Try it with roast poultry, pork or richer fish dishes.

Bodega Tamerán
View all Bodega Tamerán winesBodega Tamerán is one of Gran Canaria's most compelling estates, founded in 2019 by Canary Island native and footballer David Silva alongside the acclaimed Tenerife winemaker Jonatan García of Suertes del Marqués. The pair share a deep affection for the islands and a belief that Gran Canaria can produce wines of genuine distinction.
Set within a natural amphitheatre at 600 to 700 metres above sea level, the six-hectare vineyard is farmed organically on sandy volcanic soils and planted to indigenous varieties including Marmajuelo, Vijariego Blanco, Baboso Blanco and Malvasía Volcánica. High elevation and a south-facing aspect give fruit of vibrant acidity and striking aromatics.
Winemaking is gentle and low-intervention. The varietal whites ferment with native yeasts in old foudres and rest on their lees for eleven months, producing wines that balance opulence with tension. A small-production Listán Negro, drawn from old bush vines high above San Mateo, completes the range with a fine, savoury red. Together they capture the singular character of this volcanic island.
