Bodega Colomé Altura Máxima Pinot Noir 2024
£53.75
The wine
Pinot Noir at 3,111 metres is a thrilling rarity. From Colomé’s extreme Altura Máxima vineyard, the intense mountain light and cold nights give a Pinot of vivid colour and bright, mineral energy.
Perfumed and precise, it shows red cherry and wild strawberry over rose, fine spice and a cool, stony freshness, the tannins delicate and the acidity lively. High-altitude Pinot with real tension. Lovely with duck, poultry, mushroom dishes and soft cheeses.
The producer
Bodega Colomé
View all Bodega Colomé winesFounded in 1831, Bodega Colomé is the oldest working winery in Argentina and a pioneer of extreme high-altitude wine. Hidden deep in Salta’s Calchaquí Valley, its vineyards climb from 1,750 metres to the dizzying 3,111 metres of Altura Máxima, among the highest in the world.
Revitalised by the Hess family from 2001 and crafted by French winemaker Thibaut Delmotte with a low-intervention hand, Colomé has been named a First Growth of Argentina by Tim Atkin every year since 2020. Intense mountain sun and dramatic day-night swings give wines of rich colour, fine tannins and singular freshness.
From perfumed Torrontés and old-vine Auténtico Malbec to the rarefied Altura Máxima bottlings, this is high-altitude wine at its most thrilling.
