Berton Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay 2024
£14.45
The wine
From Berton's original high-altitude Eden Valley plot in the Barossa ranges. Generous aromas of white rose, almond biscotti and tropical fruit lead to a well-structured, creamy palate of ripe grapefruit and lemon, layered with toasty vanilla and nutmeg. Proper Reserve-level Chardonnay at a remarkably modest price. Roast poultry, creamy fish pie, good company.
The producer
Berton Vineyard
View all Berton Vineyard winesBerton Vineyard was established by Bob and Cherie Berton in May 1996, with thirty hectares of gently rolling hills at 450 metres in High Eden, a subregion of South Australia's Eden Valley. The superb Reserve Shiraz and Reserve Chardonnay are still sourced from that original plot.
In 2007 Bob purchased the Yenda winery in the heart of the Riverina, a state-of-the-art facility with the capacity to process 20,000 tonnes. It is this combination that defines Berton: genuinely characterful, value-driven ranges such as Foundstone and Metal Label sitting alongside premium single vineyard wines from Barossa, Coonawarra and High Eden.
The range runs from crisp Pinot Grigio and unoaked Chardonnay through the cult favourite Black Shiraz and inky Durif to The Bonsai, their flagship High Eden Shiraz Cabernet. Sunshine in a bottle, made properly.
