Baron de Badassière Syrah 2025
£10.25
The wine
Deep, dark red, with black pepper and liquorice on the nose and red fruit with a hint of cocoa on the palate. Rich and juicy, with supple tannins and a fresh, lifted finish.
The grapes come from vineyards around Badassière, near Pomérols on the Languedoc coast, where sunshine brings ripe flavour and sea breezes keep the wine fresh. It is made exclusively for Liberty Wines at the Cave de Pomérols by Marguerite Vasseur, with New Zealand consultant Matt Thomson. A generous, easy red for grilled meats, sausages and midweek suppers.

View all Baron de Badassière winesBaron de Badassière comes from the sun-drenched Languedoc coast, where the vineyards look out over the Étang de Thau, the great lagoon that lends these wines their freshness. The name belongs to an old vineyard once owned by a flamboyant eighteenth-century baron, rumoured to be the illegitimate son of Louis XV.
Made at the respected Cave de Pomérols, in the heart of Picpoul de Pinet country, the wines are crafted with a deliberately light hand: little or no skin contact, no malolactic, no oak. The aim is purity, letting each grape variety speak clearly.
From the crisp, saline Picpoul that is the cellar’s speciality to a fragrant Viognier and a bright, peppery Carignan, these are fresh, modern, food-friendly wines. Mediterranean sunshine and sea breezes, beautifully caught.
