Baron de Badassière Sauvignon Blanc 2025
£10.25
The wine
Pale yellow with lifted citrus fruit aromas and a touch of tropical depth.
The vines sit on clay-limestone terraces overlooking the Étang de Thau, the string of coastal lagoons that produces most of France oysters. Sauvignon Blanc this far south needs cool ground to keep its edge, and the sea breeze does what altitude does elsewhere. Bottled as Pays d Oc, the regional IGP that gives growers freedom the appellations do not.

Baron de Badassière
View all Baron de Badassière winesBaron de Badassière comes from the sun-drenched Languedoc coast, where the vineyards look out over the Étang de Thau, the great lagoon that lends these wines their freshness. The name belongs to an old vineyard once owned by a flamboyant eighteenth-century baron, rumoured to be the illegitimate son of Louis XV.
Made at the respected Cave de Pomérols, in the heart of Picpoul de Pinet country, the wines are crafted with a deliberately light hand: little or no skin contact, no malolactic, no oak. The aim is purity, letting each grape variety speak clearly.
From the crisp, saline Picpoul that is the cellar’s speciality to a fragrant Viognier and a bright, peppery Carignan, these are fresh, modern, food-friendly wines. Mediterranean sunshine and sea breezes, beautifully caught.
