Azamor Selected Vines 2018
£20.25
The wine
Selected Vines is one of Azamor’s signature wines, drawn from the estate’s best plots. A blend of Syrah and Touriga Franca with a backbone of Alicante Bouschet, given time in oak and now showing the rewards of bottle age.
Deep and complex, it layers ripe dark fruit with spice, tobacco and a fine, savoury structure, the tannins softened and integrated with maturity. A red to linger over, perfect with lamb, game and slow-cooked beef. (40% Syrah, 40% Touriga Franca, 20% Alicante Bouschet.)

View all Azamor winesAzamor is a family estate in the Alentejo, the sun-baked plains that Portugal calls its breadbasket and one of the country’s great red wine regions. It sits high above the landscape near historic Vila Viçosa, with views that stretch to Spain.
Alison and Joaquim Luiz-Gomes bought the property in 1998 and planted the first vines in 2001. The vineyards are unusual: among the most densely planted in the region, set at 350 metres on clay over schist, giving low yields of deeply concentrated fruit.
Alison makes the wines with a light touch, drawing on a palette of Portuguese natives and international varieties alike. From the juicy, generous Alentejano blend to a singular wine made entirely from Petit Verdot, these are reds of real elegance, concentration and depth.
Bold yet refined, unmistakably Alentejo, and quietly distinctive. A serious estate, and a genuine find.
