Azamor Petit Verdot 2022

The wine
Petit Verdot usually plays a supporting role in Bordeaux; at Azamor it takes the lead. This is a single-variety red of real presence, aged twelve months in French oak, a third of it new.
Dark to the rim, it shows intense black fruit, violet and a subtle smoky, spiced character, framed by firm but ripe tannins and a long, structured finish. A wine with depth and ageing potential. Serve it with game, grilled beef and lamb. (100% Petit Verdot.)

Azamor
View all Azamor winesAzamor is a family estate in the Alentejo, the sun-baked plains that Portugal calls its breadbasket and one of the country’s great red wine regions. It sits high above the landscape near historic Vila Viçosa, with views that stretch to Spain.
Alison and Joaquim Luiz-Gomes bought the property in 1998 and planted the first vines in 2001. The vineyards are unusual: among the most densely planted in the region, set at 350 metres on clay over schist, giving low yields of deeply concentrated fruit.
Alison makes the wines with a light touch, drawing on a palette of Portuguese natives and international varieties alike. From the juicy, generous Alentejano blend to a singular wine made entirely from Petit Verdot, these are reds of real elegance, concentration and depth.
Bold yet refined, unmistakably Alentejo, and quietly distinctive. A serious estate, and a genuine find.
