ArmAs Voskehat 2022

The wine
Armenia's great native white grape, grown beneath Mount Ararat in the birthplace of wine itself. Intense, complex aromas of white melon, green apple, fresh rosemary and lime carry subtle spice undertones. The palate echoes the nose, a streak of fresh minerality balancing its full structure through a long, elegant finish. Genuinely unlike anything else on the shelf; superb with roast chicken and grilled fish.
The producer
ArmAs
View all ArmAs winesArmenia has a fair claim to being the birthplace of wine. The Bible describes its slopes planted with vines, and the world's oldest known winery, some 6,100 years old, was unearthed in an Armenian cave. ArmAs, founded by Armen Aslanyan, is revitalising that extraordinary legacy for the modern day.
The estate sits on the 45th parallel in the Aragatsotn Province, 180 hectares of undulating vineyard and orchard on complex volcanic soils, set against the snow-capped backdrop of Mount Ararat. It is one of the most dramatic places on earth to grow a vine.
Winemaker Emilio del Medico works exclusively with estate-grown native varieties: the golden-hued Voskehat for whites and the deeply coloured Karmrahyut for rosé and reds, grapes found almost nowhere else on the planet.
The results are elegant, distinctive wines that taste of their ancient homeland: mineral, aromatic and quietly profound. For the drinker who thinks they have tried everything, Armenia awaits.
