Andeluna 1300 Merlot 2024
£12.95
The wine
A vibrant, high-altitude Merlot that trades heaviness for energy. Morello cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry are lifted by nutmeg spice and aromatic herbs. The palate is smooth and soft-textured, closing with a long, fine finish. Wonderfully versatile at the table, from roast poultry and pork to lighter red meat dishes.

View all Andeluna winesAndeluna is one of the defining names of high-altitude Argentine wine, farming a single 70 hectare vineyard at 1,300 metres in Gualtallary, Tupungato, in the heart of Mendoza's Uco Valley. Founded in 2003, the estate takes its name from the moonlit nights that illuminate the Andes above the vines, and in barely two decades it has moved from newcomer to the global spotlight.
Everything begins with the site. The rocky, calcareous soils of Gualtallary sit in one of the coolest, brightest corners of Mendoza, where intense sunlight, cold nights and poor soils yield small berries of remarkable concentration and freshness. The vineyard is farmed sustainably and was fully soil mapped in 2015, with cultivation adapted block by block, and since 2020 the vines have been certified organic.
Winemaking is led by Manuel González, previously Head Winemaker at Pulenta Estate and Chief Oenologist at Trivento, working alongside the celebrated consultant Hans Vinding-Diers. Their approach is minimal intervention: let the mountain fruit speak, frame it with restraint, and bottle wines of energy and definition.
The range moves from the vibrant, early-drinking Raices wines through the flagship 1300 series, named for the altitude of the vineyard, to the concentrated Altitud tier and the grand Pasionado wines, alongside the strikingly original Blanc de Malbec, a white wine pressed gently from red Malbec grapes. These are mountain wines in the truest sense: aromatic, fresh and precisely structured, with the perfume and mineral drive that only extreme altitude can give.
