Weingut Anton Finkenauer

1 wine

In 1925 the Finkenauer winery was divided when two brothers chose to go their own ways, and there have been two estates of the same name in Bad Kreuznach ever since. Weingut Anton Finkenauer is the family company now run by Hans-Anton Finkenauer, working around nine hectares and producing some 60,000 bottles a year.

The Nahe is Germany's most geologically varied wine region, a small area following the river of that name where volcanic rock, slate, quartzite, sandstone and loam all occur within a few kilometres. That diversity is why the region is difficult to characterise and why its best wines are so distinctive. It sits between the Mosel and the Rheinhessen and takes something from each: the Mosel's raciness and the fuller body of the Rhine.

The estate's vineyards lie in the Kreuznach sites of Brückes, Forst and Hinkelstein, and the wines are made to be drunk rather than cellared, at prices that reflect that.
