Kyperounda holds a European record twice over: the continent's highest winery, at 1,140 metres in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus, drawing on vineyards that climb past 1,400 metres. Up here, above the heat of the Mediterranean, the native Xynisteri grape ripens slowly into something altogether more refined.
Built to the specifications of its winemakers and working by gravity to handle the fruit as gently as possible, the winery has been making wine since 2003 and has already made a considerable splash on the international stage. Petritis, its flagship white, is widely regarded as Cyprus's finest.
