Garage Wine Co began, true to its name, in a garage in 2001, when Derek Mossman Knapp and Pilar Miranda started making wine for friends. It has since become one of the most admired names in South American wine and a driving force in the rediscovery of Chile's old, dry-farmed vineyards.
The wines come parcel by parcel from ancient bush vines in the Maule and Itata, farmed by smallholders whose families have worked them for generations, many still ploughed by horse. Everything is fermented lot by lot with native yeasts, pressed on a hand-cranked basket press, and bottled with a ferment number rather than a marketing plan. Carignan, Garnacha, Monastrell, Cinsault and old field blends: these are wines of place, texture and electricity, new to our shelves and very warmly recommended.
