Established in Riquewihr in 1574, the Dopff family has been making Alsace wine for more than thirteen generations. Pioneers throughout, they were responsible for the tall, slender stemmed bottle that still distinguishes Alsace from every other region.
In 1900, tenth-generation Julien Dopff came home from the Paris Exposition so taken with the Champagnes he had tasted that he spent two years learning the method in Champagne itself before returning to Alsace. The Crémant that followed was the first of its kind in the region.
After the war Julien fought for Crémant d'Alsace to be recognised and protected, and in 1976, with five other producers, he finally won it official appellation status. The range runs from that historic Crémant through pure varietal Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer to the Grand Cru sites of Schoenenbourg and Brand de Turckheim.
