Ruinart is the oldest established Champagne house, founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, nephew of the Benedictine monk Dom Thierry Ruinart, who had grasped early the commercial promise of sparkling wine. Chardonnay is the signature, giving wines of luminous freshness and elegance. The house ages its bottles in the crayeres, vast chalk pits dug by the Romans beneath Reims, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
